Choosing the right season for your senior’s photos is one of the biggest decisions parents make when planning their senior session.
As a Toledo senior photographer, I get this question all the time:
“Should we book in the spring or wait until summer?”
The truth? Both seasons are beautiful — but they create very different experiences.
Let’s break it down so you can choose confidently.
Why I Absolutely Love Spring Senior Photos in Toledo
I’ll be honest… spring sessions are probably my favorite.
There is something magical about Toledo in the spring. The blooms at Toledo Botanical Garden are stunning. The colors are soft and romantic. And best of all? No miserable humidity ruining your hair five minutes into your session.
Spring also means:
- Fewer crowds at popular photo locations
- Comfortable temperatures
- A chance to check senior photos off your to-do list before senior year even begins
That last one is huge. So many parents feel relief knowing this milestone is already beautifully taken care of before the busy fall season starts.
Hidden Challenges of Spring Sessions (And How I Handle Them)
Spring does come with unpredictability.
We can get:
- Cold snaps
- Rain
- Muddy grass
- Bloom timing that isn’t quite peak yet
That’s exactly why I only take a limited number of seniors each month.
If weather doesn’t cooperate or blooms aren’t at their best, we remain flexible. Because I don’t overschedule myself, I can offer alternate dates when needed.
Your session shouldn’t feel rushed or forced. It should feel intentional and beautiful.
And that flexibility is one of the ways I protect your experience.
Why Summer Senior Photos Are So Popular
Summer is the classic choice for Toledo senior photography — and for good reason.
You get:
- Gorgeous golden sunsets
- No school commitments
- That relaxed summer vibe
If you choose one of my sunrise sessions, you also get cooler temperatures and dreamy morning light before the humidity kicks in.
Summer is bold. Glowy. Classic.

Hidden Challenges of Summer Sessions
Let’s talk honestly about summer.
The biggest challenges?
Heat. Humidity. Busy parks.
Makeup can get tricky. Hair can frizz. And session times often mean 6:00am sunrise or 8:00pm sunset to avoid harsh light and heavy crowds.
Some seniors thrive in that golden glow. Others realize they’d rather avoid sweating through their outfit.
Comfort matters more than people realize.
When Should You Book Each Season?
Here’s what I recommend:
For April or May sessions:
Inquire at least 2-3 months in advance. Earlier is even better. I’m already booking those months, and I only take a couple seniors per month to give each one the attention they deserve.
For June, July, or August sessions:
Start thinking about booking your senior session 3-4 months ahead so you have time to secure your preferred weekend date.
Waiting until the last minute creates stress — especially when it comes to outfits.
And I hate to see seniors scrambling two weeks before their session trying to pull everything together.
Which Season Is Right for Your Senior?
Spring may be perfect if:
- Your senior prefers cooler weather
- You love florals and soft tones
- You want this checked off early
Summer may be best if:
- Your senior has spring sports
- You love golden, bold images
- You prefer classic timing
Also remember: I only book sessions on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays), so keep your family’s schedule in mind when choosing.
There is no “right” answer. There’s just the season that fits your senior’s personality and comfort level best.
The Biggest Mistake I See Parents Make
Assuming senior sessions only start in summer.
Spring in Toledo is gorgeous — and often overlooked.
The second mistake? Waiting too long to inquire.
Please don’t assume you’re “too early.” Sooner is always better. Especially when you want a specific month.
No Matter Which Season You Choose…
No matter what season you choose, I want you to know that I’ll be here to guide you every step of the way.
From outfit planning to session prep to posing guidance and gallery delivery — I’ve got you.
As a former teacher who loved working with juniors and seniors, I understand how meaningful this milestone is. Your senior year only happens once.
I promise to take care of your senior’s photos the way I would take care of my own child’s.
If you're ready to start planning your Toledo senior photography session, I’d love to help you choose the perfect season.
