It’s always such a special treat when former students return for their senior pictures — and Josie was no exception! I loved catching up with her and her mom (a longtime teacher friend of mine) and celebrating this milestone together.

Senior year flies by, and photos like these are the perfect way to document it all.

Stunning Locations for Your Session

Josie’s senior session featured two gorgeous backdrops: GardenView Flowers and downtown Grand Rapids, OH.

  • GardenView Flowers is ideal for seniors who want vibrant, natural shots with soft textures, pops of color, and endless variety among the flowers and greenery.
  • Downtown Grand Rapids adds a charming, quaint urban feel, perfect for mixing in a more relaxed, lifestyle vibe with benches, streetscapes, and small-town architecture.

Combining multiple locations in one session is a great way to get the best of both worlds, creating a gallery that feels varied and unique.

Outfit Planning Made Simple

Josie prepared thoughtfully for her session with three amazing outfits:

  • A flowy blue dress, elegant and perfect for the garden setting
  • A pink top paired with white jeans, casual yet polished
  • A light pink dress, soft, feminine, and classic

Planning outfits around locations and lighting is key to creating images that pop. Lighter, flowy fabrics work beautifully in gardens, while clean, simple combinations work well in urban areas. Choosing 2–3 outfits gives your gallery variety without being overwhelming.

Tips for Prepping for Your Senior Session

Even though every senior has a unique style, there are a few ways to prep that make a huge difference:

  • Bring outfits that feel authentic to you
  • Consider textures and layers — dresses, skirts, denim, or simple accessories
  • Plan outfit changes that flow naturally with your locations
  • Don’t forget hair and makeup prep if desired — even small details elevate the final images

A little prep goes a long way in making your senior gallery polished and timeless.

Advice from Josie for Future Freshmen

Josie shared this tip for incoming high schoolers: “Don’t be scared to try something new.”

It’s advice we can all take to heart — stepping out of your comfort zone often leads to the most memorable moments, both in school and during your senior session. A willingness to try something new is what makes both life and photos exciting!
