Your senior year is such an exciting time, and your photo session should be one of the highlights — not a source of stress! At Alex Lacey Photography, I specialize in making seniors feel confident, comfortable, and totally themselves in front of the camera. Here are my top 5 tips for a stress-free senior photo session.

1. Plan Your Outfits in Advance

If you’re booking my Gold package, you can bring up to 3 outfits. If you’re going all out with my Platinum package, you can bring up to 4 outfits. This gives you variety while still keeping your session flowing smoothly. Think about different styles — casual, dressy, and something that feels uniquely you.

2. Try On (and Test) Your Outfits Beforehand

Don’t just pack your outfits the morning of your session — wear them for 10–15 minutes at home to make sure you feel comfortable moving, sitting, and walking in them. We’ll be doing plenty of movement during your shoot, and nothing ruins confidence faster than an outfit that feels too tight, itchy, or constricting. Bonus tip: take a few mirror selfies to see how they photograph in natural light!

3. Bring a Backup Option

Even if you think you’re 100% sure on your choices, toss in one extra outfit. Weather changes, moods shift, and sometimes a last-minute switch can make all the difference. Having a backup ensures we can adapt on the fly and keep your gallery looking fresh and cohesive.

4. Bring a Friend for Support (and Fun!)

Sessions are always more relaxed when you have a known hype person in your corner. Bring a best friend or sibling who makes you laugh and helps you feel confident. They can carry your bag, help with outfit changes, and even get behind me to crack a joke while I’m taking your photos. The more relaxed and happy you feel, the better your photos will turn out!

5. Trust the Process

You don’t have to be a model or know how to pose — that’s my job! I’ll guide you through flattering poses, natural prompts, and locations that suit your personality and style. All you need to do is show up, be yourself, and have fun. The best photos happen when you’re relaxed and enjoying the moment.

Your senior photos are about more than just looking good — they’re about celebrating you in this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. With a little preparation and the right mindset, you’ll walk away with images that feel authentic, timeless, and unforgettable.
